American Sign Language is visual and manually produced language in which a person uses their hands, facial expressions, body language, and movement to convey meaning. This class is designed to teach students the basic of communication in ASL as well as Deaf Culture. A language and its culture cannot be separated, resulting in an immersion into Deaf culture and the Deaf community.
I am Teresa Flores, formerly Brooksher, and am a graduate of Azusa Pacific University. I currently teach American Sign Language at a high school level (grades 9-12). I absolutely LOVE what I do and mentoring young minds for a future. Previously I was an interpreter for the deaf and hard-of-hearing in public school and I didn't picture myself as a high school teacher until I recognized the need for young people to have a role model they could count on. I have a passion for ASL and the needs of the deaf community and would love to pass that on to my students. I currently interpret ASL during breaks and holidays; I absolutely love it.
